SCMC seeks to honor teachers

The Senior Citizens of Marion County Board of Directors desires to honor retired educators at its annual meeting in October.

The board is seeking nominations of retired teachers/professors who: live in Marion County; are at least 60 years of age; were employed in the county, state or out of state; taught at public/private schools or colleges/universities.

Nominations are accepted from the public through Aug. 9. Forms are available at local senior centers or online on the Depart?ment on Aging web page at www.marioncoks.net.

The deadline for nominations is Aug. 9.

Goessel church to host movie night

Chisholm Trail Bible Church is hosting a movie night at 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10, at 101 N. Wheat St. in Goessel.

Tampa farmers? market set Aug. 6

Tampa is having its weekly farmers? market starting at 6 p.m. Aug. 6 with a meal at the Tampa Senior Center.

Two blood drives planned for August

The American Red Cross is planning two blood drives in Marion County during August.

The first one will be 1-6 p.m. Aug. 22 at the Hillsboro United Methodist Church, 905 E. D St.

The second one will be 2-6 p.m. Aug. 27 at Goessel Mennonite Church, 109 S. Church St.

The American Red Cross continues to have an urgent need for blood donors of all blood types to give before the Labor Day holiday. Donors with types O negative, B negative and A negative blood are especially needed.

HHS plans session for ?new? parents

Hillsboro High School will host an orientation meeting for parents who have a student making the transition from middle school to high school, or a new student to HHS in 2014-15, at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 14. in the auditorium.

Freshmen students need not attend.

The meeting is intended to provide insight regarding what students and parents can expect during the first year of high school.

Besides having an opportunity to address specific questions, the meeting will address general procedures and policies.2

 

Chat and Dine Club to meet Aug. 9

The Marion County Park and Lake Chat and Dine Club is having its next potluck starting at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 9 at the North Shelter House.

Organizers said outdoor games will include horse shoes, ladder ball and washers.

Anyone interested in bringing a guest or a game is encouraged to do so.

Paddle boat race

slated Saturday

The third annual Paddle Boat Race at Marion County Park and Lake begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9.

The event will also include canoes and kayaks.

All boats must be inspected for zebra muscle and cannot have been in another body of water in the last seven days.

Entry forms must be turned in and fees paid prior to race time.
