Young child screening on Nov 12

The public is invited to attend.

A FREE screening for children birth through five years old will be held on Tuesday, November 12 in Marion. Appointments will be available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

At the screening, development will be checked in the areas of: cognitive, motor, speech/language, and social/emotional.

Vision and hearing will also be screened. This process usually takes at least one hour for a child to complete. All children are welcome, but an appointment is necessary.

The screening is sponsored by Marion County Early Intervention Services.

Annual Chicken Dinner on Nov 7

The Tabor Mennonite Men invite you to the 50th annual chicken BBQ on Thursday, Nov 7. They will be serving BBQ chicken, baked beans, slaw and ice cream from 5-7 p.m. Donations are going to the Mennonite Men Join Hands program and Core Communities Marion County.

Tabor Church is located at 89/Chisolm Trail and 90th in Marion County. Bring your families and join us for a fun evening of great food and friends.

Successful blood drive held in Hillsboro

A Red Cross blood drive was held at Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church on Tuesday, Oct 22.

Several people from the community came and contributed to the 41 pints that were collected.

Thank you to everyone that came to donate, helped staff the event, Kiwanis, and Dale’s Supermarket for providing the sandwiches.

Marion Co. 4-H annual meeting Nov 3

The Annual Meeting of the Marion County 4-H Endowment Fund will be held at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov 3 in the basement of the Marion Community Center.

The President will give a report including a review of short-term and long-term goals. A treasurer’s report will be given.

The board of directors invites everyone to this meeting to hear how the 4-H Endowment Fund has helped Marion County 4-Hers during the year.

Volunteer soup dinner on Nov 2

The Grand street brick laying volunteers and their families are invited to a come and go appreciation soup meal from 5-7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov 2 in the HHS Commons.

FUMC to host a meal on Nov 3

The Florence United Methodist Church will host the Annual Community Thanksgiving meal at the Florence Masonic Center at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday evening, Nov 3.

Turkey, mashed potatoes & gravy, and drinks will be furnished. Everyone is invited to come and bring a dessert, vegetable or salad to share.

Come and spend this time of fellowship with family and friends this Thanksgiving season!

GES will have Family Reading Night Oct 29

The Goessel Elementary School Family Reading Night is coming Tuesday, Oct. 29. The theme this year is a space them of “Reading is Out of This World”.

They are offering families a free supper served by our BOE. There will be numerous reading centers set up through the school. One center will involve a giant inflatable space bubble large enough to accommodate 50 people with the constellations on the ceiling and in that bubble will be our featured story reader.

Writers Fellowship on Nov 2 in Hesston

World Creative Writers Fellowship is privileged to hear author André Swartley at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov 2 at the Hesston Public Library.

Swartley will share helps for publishing your personal writings.

Visitors always welcome.

Marion Co Democrats met Oct 26

Marion Co. Democrats met Oct. 26 in the Marion Community Center.

County chair Eileen Sieger conducted the business meeting opening with the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

It was noted that the Presidential Primary on May 2, 2020 will be at the Marion Senior Center.

There is a constitutional amendment on the November 5 ballot to be considered.

Following the business meeting there was a presentation on Medicaid Expansion by Sheldon Weisgrau who is Senior Policy Advisor of Alliance for a Healthy Kansas in Topeka. He was thorough, well received and had good audience participation.

The next meeting will be January 11, 2020, location to be announced.

MCL to host Christmas Decorating Nov 12

Christmas Decorating with Vintage Items will be the theme of the Marion City Library’s Lunch n’ Learn from 12-1p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 12.

Denise Matz will demonstrate and give tips on decorating vintage items for the holidays.

Reservations are needed by Nov. $5.00 for Lunch.

HUMC Turkey Dinner Nov 1

Hillsboro United Methodist Church is hosting a turkey dinner and silent auction from 5-7 p.m. on Nov 1.

They will be serving turkey, dressing, potatoes and gravy, cranberry sauce and pie.

Carry outs are available through the south doors of the Fellowship Hall. There is no need to call ahead.

This is a free will donation meal. Proceeds will go to missions and church projects.

Tabor to host Halloween event

Tabor College is introducing “Tabor’s Trick-or-Treat: Starring Heroes, Princesses and You!” from 6:30-8 p.m on Oct. 31 for the youth of Hillsboro and surrounding communities.

Simple carnival-like games will be provided for the trick-or-treaters so they can win some candy and have fun. If the weather allows for the event to be outside, it will be. If the weather isn’t good, the event will be indoors.
