Burdick event to raise more funds

The 10th annual Valen?tine Benefit Auction is planned for 5:30 p.m. Satur?day, Feb. 8, at Burdick Methodist Church.

The meal will offer a variety of homemade soups, breads, cheese and crackers and desserts?by donation.

The auction will start about 7 p.m.

Proceeds from the auction and meal will go to the church?s Benevolent Fund, which was established in 1997 to assist families in the tri-county area with medical or financial needs.

Seventy families in surrounding communities have been helped in the past 17 years including Herington, Lincolnville, Wilsey, Marion, Burdick, Ramona, Tampa, Hillsboro, Hope, Lost Springs and a few other places.

Ten families were helped last year with medical and financial needs totaling $6,200.

Items for the auction include homemade items such as cinnamon rolls, pies, cakes, candy, jelly, other handmade items, and many new gift items and services that can also be used for Valentine gifts.

Community hymn sing slated Feb. 9

The monthly community hymn sing will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, at Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church, 300 Prairie Pointe.

The event includes singing, scripture reading and prayer.

Those attending will have the opportunity to select favorite hymns.

Directing the hymn sing is Glenn Litke with Sheila Litke as pianist.

 

Hillsboro Legion fish fry canceled

The Hillsboro American Legion fish fry scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, is canceled due to weather.

Bible church plans movie night Feb. 9

The Chisholm Trail Bible Church, 101 N. Wheat St., Goessel, is having a free movie night at 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9.

The movie, with Kirk Cameron, is ?Unstoppable.?

Free refreshments will also be served.

City rec offers knitting class

The Hillsboro Recreation Commission and Treena Lucero will be offering a knitting 101 Class from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Feb. 17 and 24, and March 3, 10, 17 and 24.

The class will meet in the council room at city hall.

This class is intended for beginners, or those who might have been taught when they were younger but have forgotten what to do.

No previous experience is necessary. Supplies will be provided for the first class. Participants will need to purchase their own supplies for the remaining classes. Participants can expect to work on their projects outside of class.

The cost of this class is $60 with a limit of 10 people and a minimum of eight.

The deadline to register for the class is Feb. 12.

Free screening in Peabody Feb. 11

Marion County Early Intervention Services will offer a free screening for children birth through 5 years old Tuesday, Feb. 11, at the Peabody United Metho?dist Church. Appointments will be available from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

At the screening, development will be checked in the areas of learning, motor, language and social development. Vision and hearing will also be screened.

This process usually takes at least one hour for a child to complete. All children are welcome, but an appointment is necessary. To make one, call 620-382-2858.

 

Tai Chi classes to begin Feb. 11

Marion County Department on Aging is offering two Tai Chi class at Marion Senior Center starting Tuesday, Feb 11.

The first class will meet every Tuesday and Thursday from 12:45-1:30 p.m. and the second class will meet on the same days from 5:15-6 p.m.

Call Gayla Ratzlaff to register for the class at 620-382-3580. The cost of class for the six weeks is $6 ($1 a week).
