As part of the city?s 125th Anniversary and centennial of the Schaeffler House celebration June 27, the Friends of the Hillsboro Museums will sponsor a period fashion show.
The program will start at 10:30 a.m. on the east lawn of the Schaeffler House, said Stan Harder, museums director.
Vintage Fashion Inc. of Abilene will put on the show, which will feature costumes from the 1870s through 1937. Harder said 1937 marked the first 50 years of the Schaeffler family in Hillsboro.
In addition, a local fashion contest is being organized by the 125th committee. Prizes will be given in three categories: adult women, adult men and families.
Like the fashion show, the contest will seek to emphasize the time period from the 1870s through 1937.
Contestants should pre-register. Forms will be available at the Museums Visitor Center and at Quilts and Quiltracks, 130 N. Main.
The forms should be completed and returned by June 24.
Vintage Fashion Inc. curates a vast collection of vintage clothing that is used in fashion shows and programs that interpret history through the fashions that were worn during a particular time in U.S. history.
The collection covers the eras between the Civil War and today, with special emphasis on the World War II years and the 1950s.
?We have several programs that are offered, including one that will be especially developed for the 125th anniversary celebration in Hillsboro on June 27,? said curator Jill Crist.
?We will take care to incorporate Hillsboro?s history and some of its most influential people into the program, which will be both educational and entertaining.?
