HCF seeking grant applications

The Hillsboro Commun?ity Foundation is accepting applications for grant funds to be distributed in 2015 from the Hillsboro Area Impact Fund.

Organizations may apply that are exempt from federal income tax under Section 501(c)(3) and serve Hillsboro and surrounding communities.

Application forms can be downloaded from hillsboro?free?press.com or cityofhillsboro.net. The deadline for submission is Nov. 17.

The Impact Fund is an unrestricted grant fund created by the generosity of individuals who have contributed to this endowment. Grants will not be limited to a particular issue or target population.

Successful applications assist the foundation in fulfilling its mission to improve the quality of life for the Hillsboro area.

USDA commodities to arrive Nov. 12

Senior centers in Marion County were to receive USDA commodities Wednes?day, Nov. 12.

Each site will distribute commodities according to its own schedule, but will not distribute them on the same day. Those eligible are asked to contact your local site for a distribution schedule.

Lehigh residents need to pick up commodities at Main Street Ministries in Hillsboro and Lincolnville residents need to pick up commodities at Marion Senior Center.

If no commodities are left at your site, call the Marion County Department on Aging at 620-382-3580 to find out where commodities are available.

Commodities are available to persons who are income eligible.

GHS ?State Fair? on stage Nov. 14-15

Goessel High School will present Rogers and Hammerstein?s ?State Fair? at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14 and Saturday, Nov. 15, in the GHS Auditorium.

Tickets are $5 and can be purchased in the high school office by calling 620-367-2242, or at the door. Seating is general admission.

Circles seeking volunteer ?allies?

Circles of Marion County is seeking volunteers to be ?allies? for Circle leaders.

An ally supports the goals and celebrates the successes of a Circle leader seeking to move out of poverty, according to Mark Rogers, Circles coordinator.

?An ally sets relational boundaries and has high expectations for those in the relationship,? Rogers said. ?An ally is available when issues arise and has Circles Community to call on for support.?

Circles Marion County provides training and coaching for allies. Currently 14 leaders are in training and will be seeking allies in early 2015.

HCH Auxiliary fundraiser Nov. 19

Hillsboro Commun?ity Hospital Auxiliary volunteers are having a bake sale fundraising event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, in the hospital lobby, 701 S. Main St.

Volunteers will sell Christmas baked goods and handcrafted items.

In addition, the auxiliary?s used books are for sale with a self-pay box.

Proceeds from the event will go toward a current project to purchase televisions for patient rooms.

Connie Weber, Pampered Chef representative in Hillsboro, will also have fall and Christmas products.

Free parenting classes offered

A free three-hour parenting class, ?Conscious Discipline for Parents,? is being offered from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 15, at Peabody.

Another class will meet in Goessel Nov. 22.

In addition, classes will run once a month after December in different communities in Marion County.

The class is sponsored by Families and Communities Together of Marion County and funded through a grant.

Participants will learn hands-on activities to help connect with children; skills to teach children how to be respectful, kind and encouraging to others, and understand and respond to true childhood needs.

Free childcare and snacks will be provided. The locations will be announced at a later date.

TEEN group to meet Nov. 19

The Technology Excel?lence in Education Net?work will hold its regular monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Wednes?day, Nov. 19, at the USD 408 district office at 101 N. Thorp St., Marion.
