HHS Fine Arts Festival is May 8

The Hillsboro High School band, vocal and art departments will be presenting their Fine Arts Festival beginning at 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 8.

Sixth- through 12th-grade bands, under the direction of Bruce Major, and choirs, under the direction of Lynn Just, will be performing in the high school gym.

Artwork from Dustin Dalke?s classes will be displayed in the commons.

The public is invited to attend.

 

Parkinson?s group to meet in Mac

?Establishing Your Treatment Team? is the topic for the next meeting of Prairie View?s monthly Parkinson?s Disease Support Group, which will meet from 2-3 p.m., Tuesday, May 12, in the community room at Prairie View, 1102 Hospital Drive in McPherson.

David McDonald, licensed psychologist, leads the group. It is open to anyone interested in Parkinson?s disease, including caregivers and care receivers.

Relay group invites early registration

Even though the 30th Marion County Relay for Life is five months away, organizers are inviting participants to register now.

The event will be from 5-11 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Marion High School track and football stadium.

To register online, go to www.relayforlife.org/MarionCoKs, then click on the ?Sign Up? button to start a fund?raising team, join an existing team or participate as a survivor.

Activities surrounding the event include the community supper of chili and cinnamon rolls; games and activities such as Punch Card Relay, Ribbon Land (played like human Candy Land), Crop Your Tail for hair donations; and the Poker Run laps.

As always, the event will begin with the luminary cere?mony for survivors with glowing bags lining the track.

CPR, first aid class scheduled May 14

Marion County EMS and K-State Extension are hosting a come-and-go Simple CPR/First Aid from 5:30-6:30 p.m. May 14 at the extension office in Marion.

Information presented will include choking and poison hazards. This is a non-credentialing class and will be free of charge.

 

Art show, social planned at Centre

Centre Public Schools is having an art show and ice cream social from 7-8 p.m. Friday, May 8, in the Main Commons area at Centre.

Students in grades third through fifth will display artwork. Pat Wick and Jessica Gilbert were their instructors.

An ice cream social begins at 7:30 p.m.

In addition, students in kindergarten through sixth grade worked throughout the year in the school garden and everyone is invited to see their projects.

Deb Casey and Jamie Peterson were their teachers.

 

USDA?commodities to arrive May 13

USDA commodities will arrive at Marion County senior centers May 13.

Each site will distribute commodities according to their schedule and may not distribute on the same day.

For information on distribution, contact local sites. Lehigh residents are asked to pick up their commodities at Main Street Ministries in Hillsboro.

In the event no commodities are left at someone?s particular site, they should call the Marion County Department on Aging at 620-382-3580 to find out where commodities are available.

 

Chat and Dine potluck Saturday

The Marion County Lake Chat and Dine Club potluck is at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, May 9, at the lake hall.

Larry and Barb Smith will be presenting information about their recent visit to Peru.

Everyone is invited and encouraged to bring guests for a great evening of food and fellowship.

 

KSU plans foods judging training

Kansas State Extension in Marion County is offering foods judging training starting at 5:30 p.m. May 21.

Anyone planning to attend, must contact Renae Riedy, KSU extension agent, by May 13 to reserve a place.

Tampa PRIDE to sponsor market

Tampa PRIDE is sponsoring it Farmers Market starting at 6 p.m. the first Wednes?days of May, June, July, August and September.

The markets will be at the Tampa Senior Center.

The May meal is being served by Centre?s FBLA as a fundraiser. Baked goods will be available to buy.

Venders are invited to participate.
