USD 410 BOE filing deadline Jan. 27

Unified School District Board of Education elections will be held in the spring.

Positions 1, 2, 3, 6 and 7 are up for election. All but position 6 are at-large positions.

Position 6 is in the middle of its term because of a prior appointment. The position 6 electee will serve a two-year term. Filing for position 6 requires residency within position 6 boundaries.

The filing deadline for all positions is noon Friday, Jan. 27.

Country Stitchers to meet at HMBC

The Country Stitchers Quilt Guild will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, in the Hearth Room at Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church, 300 Prairie Pointe.

The program will include a visual trunk show from Sisters, Ore., and Paducah, Ky.

Those planning to attend are asked to use the south entrance.

Visitors are welcome.

Annual Chamber dinner set Jan. 26

The annual dinner of the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce and Marion Chamber of Commerce is planned for Jan. 26 at Marion.

Bible study set for Jan. 8 in Hillsboro

A community Bible study for women will begin at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, in the Hearth Room at Hills?boro Mennonite Breth?ren Church, 300 Prairie Pointe.

The study is by David Jeremiah, and called ?Dis?covering the Mysteries of Heaven.?

A study guide is available for $11. There is no book, but a Bible is required.

Family to speak on work in Ghana

The Paul Federwitz family, Lutheran Bible Translators, on furlough from Ghana, will give a presentation on the work they are doing there.

The family will talk about their work in Ghana following a soup supper beginning at 6 p.m. Jan. 13 at Zion Lutheran Church in Hillsboro.

Richard and Marilyn Reimer will be the hosts and the public is invited to attend the soup supper and presentation.

A free-will offering will be taken and presented to the Federwitz family.

Alzheimer?s group to meet Jan. 13

Marilyn Ediger, a licensed specialist clinical social worker from Prairie View, will lead the next meeting of the McPherson Alz?heimer?s support group Tuesday, Jan. 13.

The group meets from 7-8:30 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month in the chapel at The Cedars, 1021 Cedars Drive, McPherson. Those attending are directed to use the business office entrance to the main building.

Sponsored by Prairie View, The Cedars and the Central and Western Kansas chapters of the Alzheimer?s Association, the meetings are free of charge and open to newcomers at any time.

Free parenting class set Jan. 17

A free three-hour parenting class is offered from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Jan. 17, at Hillsboro Elementary School, 400 E. Grand Ave.

Participants will learn skills to teach their children how to be assertive, what to do when children tattle, how to improve their self-esteem, setting boundaries and teaching children to set boundaries and helping children learn positive choices.

Free childcare and snacks will be provided. Children will also join parents at the end of class for a family activity.
