Deadline near for LMC applications
The deadline to turn in applications for the 2015 Leadership Marion County class is Friday, Jan. 30.
Applications may be picked up at the Marion County Economic De??velop?ment office inside the courthouse in Marion. Classes will begin Feb. 5 and will meet every two weeks, with the last class on May 14.

Free child screening Feb. 10 in Peabody
Marion County Early Intervention Services is planning a free screening for children birth through 5 years old from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, in Peabody.
At the screening, development will be checked in the areas of learning, motor, language and social. Vision and hearing also will be screened.
This process usually takes at least one hour for a child to complete. All children are welcome, but an appointment is necessary.

Lunch ?n Learn planned Feb. 4
Marion City Library, 101 Library St., is sponsoring a Lunch ?n Learn from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, in the Santa Fe room with Rachel Olsen and Heidi Thurston presenting.
Participants will learn how to bake and decorate cakes, cupcakes and cookies. Both Olsen and Thurston will also offer tips and secrets to cake baking and decorating ideas.
The cost is $5, and those wanting to attend are asked to RSVP by Monday, Feb. 2.
The event is open to everyone and will be in the Santa Fe Room of the library.

S-N-C to present concert Feb. 2
Hillsboro High School select vocal ensemble Spirit-N-Celebration will present a concert at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 2 in the high school auditorium. The public is invited to attend.
The group will sing solos and duets they have chosen, as well as perform choreographed group numbers including ?Treasure? by Bruno Mars, ?Goodnight, Sweetheart, Goodnight? and ?One Fine Day.?
Spirit-N-Celebration members are Caleb Bettles, David Dick, Claire Heyen, Allison Hill, Franklin Jost, Vance Klassen, Lydia Klie?wer, Riley Loewen, Daniele Melton, Taytum Miller, Graham Pankratz, Tyson Reimer and Julie Sinclair.
PBHS homecoming pep rally Feb. 6
Peabody-Burns High School announced its basketball homecoming candidates to include Brent Buller and Emma Charles, Kaden Gibson and Caroline Beal and Kornelius Skotaam and Alanis Bishop.
Candidate games and the homecoming pep rally is at 2:45 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, and the crowing is about 7 p.m. between the PBHS girls and boys basketball games.
The homecoming dance was moved to Friday, Feb. 13, after the senior night basketball game until 11:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Admission is $3.
Eastmoor Church to host Kansas Day
Kansas Day is being celebrated at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, at Eastmoor United Methodist Church, 105 Eastmoor Dr., Marion.
This is the 15th annual celebration in Marion with a meal being prepared by the UMW of the church.
Ann Zimmerman, Kansas singer and songwriter of Salina, will present the program.
The evening closes with the singing of ?Home on the Range.?

FACT director talks at Chamber lunch
The Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce will host a luncheon at noon Feb. 10 at the Scout House.
Ashlee Gann, executive director of Families and Communities Together, or FACT, will provide the program.
Gann will discuss the services available to include early childhood programs, various school-based assistance, substance abuse prevention education, parent education training and family financial assistance.
The reservation deadline is Feb. 4. The luncheon is open to all Chamber members and their guests.
