Public invited to wrap presents

The Hillsboro Lions Club invites anyone interested to join in wrapping Angel Tree gifts at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19 at city hall, 118 E. Grand Ave.

Refreshments will be provided.

?It is fun and also amazing to see how generous Hillsboro area citizens are with their gifts,? said Elfrieda Funk, club member. ?Many children are blessed by this generosity.?

Frostbite fun run set for Jan. 1

The 10th annual Hillsboro Frostbite Four Mile fun run/walk is planned for 2 p.m. Jan. 1, at the Hillsboro Scout House located in Memorial Park. The certified course winds through the city of Hillsboro.

The entry fee is $15. Every participant registered by Dec. 19 will receive a commemorative prize.

Marion library plans Lego event

The Marion City Library is planning a one-hour Lego event from 3 to 4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22, in the Santa Fe Room at the facility.

Children in grades Kindergarten through fifth are invited to create their own unique things out of Legos.

According to Janet Marler, library director, the event is free and no registration is necessary.

Hours for gym, weights change

The Hillsboro Recreation Commission open-gym and weight-room hours will be adjusted for the holiday season.

The Robert C. Brown Gymnasium will be open from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21, 28 and Jan. 4, and from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17. It will be closed Wednesday, Dec. 24 and 31.

Open gym is for both youth and adult basketball players who would like to play in pick-up games or practice shooting. They are asked to bring a separate set of clean basketball shoes to wear on the gym floor and to provide their own ball.

Hours for the USD 410-HRC weight room starting Dec. 15 will be 6-8 p.m. Monday-Friday. The following week it will be open 6-8 p.m. Dec. 22, 23 and 26. The week of Dec. 29, it will be open from 6-8 p.m. Dec. 29 and 30, and Jan. 1 and 2. The facility will be closed Dec. 24, 25 and 31.

The weight room is open to Hillsboro students who are accompanied by a parent, and also residents living in USD 410 over age 19.

Entrance is through the east door on the far east end of the main high school building. There is no cost to participate in this program.
