Goessel native Lynn ?Weirdwolf? Schmidt (right) hands Sarah Booth of Goessel one of four gift certificates to the Branding Iron Cafe awarded to drawing winners during a fundraising event Oct. 25 at the Goessel Bluebirds? home football game. Schmidt, a Goessel native who works as a graphic designer in the Kansas City area, has become a celebrity of sorts by preparing for each Chiefs game with full makeup, gear and a costume to become ?Weird?wolf.? Schmidt was a semifinalist in recent years in the Vicks NyQuil Most Dedicated Fan Contest. The Oct. 25 event was a fundraiser for the Goessel Community Foundation Impact Fund. The grand prize, a football autographed by Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith, went to Tom Howrey of Towanda. Also winning gift certificates to the Branding Iron were Dan Dundas, Valley Center; Ray Brundige, Wichita, and Derek Watta, Gasco. The $635 raised through the event will provide grants, awards and scholarships for Goessel-area non-profit groups. Standing behind Booth and Schmidt are GCF board members Anita Goertzen and Myron Schmidt. Also serving on the board are Cindy Wiens, Karen Dalke, Peggy Jay, Patsy Dirksen and John Fast.
