Two hurt in 2-accident near Peabody

Two people were injured in a two-vehicle accident June 14 on U.S. Highway 50 and 50th Road, about two miles southwest of Peabody.

Donald Gillet, 75, of Florence, was transported by Florence Emergency Medical Service to St. Luke Hospital in Marion. Tana Salome, 35, of Westmoreland, was transported by Life Team to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. Salome?s two passengers, her children ages 6 and 7, were not injured.

Gillet was driving a 1998 Chevrolet S-10 pick-up east on 50th Road. He stopped at the stop sign, but pulled out in front of a 1998 Suburban driven by Salome.

Salome swerved her vehicle and applied brakes, but hit the S-10 on the right side. The S-10 went into the grass, struck a stop sign and flipped over onto its right side. The Suburban continued into the east ditch where it caught on fire. The occupants got out of the vehicle.

Gillet was trapped in his vehicle, and the rescue team cut the windshield out to retrieve him.

Both vehicles were estimated a total loss.

Peabody Ambulance, Butler Fire No. 10 and Florence Rescue responded to the accident.
