Senior center meals raise $1,000 at farmers market

Arlen and Brenda Penner, along with their six children, helped the Hillsboro Senior Center board members with the meal at the June 23 farmers market on the grounds of the Schaeffler House Museum at Jefferson and Grand. Organizers said 230 meals were served of barbecued pulled pork, homemade potato salad, fruit salad and dessert. The center grossed $1,400 and, after expenses, was able to use the net profit of $1,000 toward needs at the facility, according to Velma Hadley, treasurer. Anyone interested in contributing to the center at 212 N. Main St., can stop by for details. In addition, Joni Calam, Farmers Market coordinator, said Thursday?s market drew the biggest turnout yet. The market is open from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. each Thursday.
