Seacat offers to sell building to county

Brad Seacat, Marion, has offered his hardware store and lumber yard with 6.2 acres for sale to Marion County for possible remodeling as an office building and a building site for a new jail and communications center.

Seacat made the offer at the commission?s Aug. 23 meeting.

The business is located in Marion?s retail industrial park on the north side of U.S. Highway 56.

Seacat told the Marion County Commission last week that the 100-by-100-foot main building could easily be remodeled into the office building commissioners have been talking about to house the health department, provide storage and perhaps include space for more county departments.

And, Seacat added, there is the possibility it could be done for as little as half the price the commissioners have talked about for a new building.

Seacat said the property includes two other buildings, one of them open-sided.

The commissioners said they would look at the property before discussing any price or willingness to buy.

Other properties have been offered to the commissioners, and there have been multiple suggestions for location. The commissioners said nothing is settled.
