Three Marion County youth recently received scholarship from Marion County Quail Forever. In the top photo, Alicen Whitaker, daughter of Cathy and Neal Whitaker, receives a check for $250 from Quail Forever president Allan Richmond as Ty Waner (far left), vice president, and Bill Shirley (far right), past president, stand by. Alicen is studying to be a physical therapist. Cole Svoboda (lower left photo), son of Sandra and A.J. Svoboda, accepts a check for $1,000; he is studying wildlife and outdoor enterprise management. Jared Vondenkamp (lower right photo), son of Lisa and Mike Vondenkamp, accepts a check for $250 and is studying to become a pipeline welder. The recipients and their families were treated to dinner by Quail Forever and the photos were taken before the dinner. To qualify for the scholarships, the recipients each had to write a 200-word essay outlining their commitment to wildlife conservation, either in previous years or in future studies at college. These essays were then judged by a Quail Forever committee. Courtesy photos
