Many in Marion County haven’t even had the chance to try out Edward’s Cafe in Marion yet due to COVID-19, and they may not get the chance at all.
This is because Edward’s Cafe will be closed for a few weeks if not for good.
The Cafe, which is owned by Lincolnville’s Mike Beneke and only recently opened up in the old Pizza Hut in Marion on Highway 56, had become a new gather spot especially in the mornings for breakfast.
But according to Beneke there had been some staff issues and general problems breaking even each day.
“We need to make about $800 a day to break even and we have only been averaging about half of that on some days,” said Beneke.
And then, Sara Smith had to go out of state this week for a few family emergencies. With no one else to cook and manage the place, the cafe has been forced to shut down for at least 2 weeks.
“We hope to reopen but it remains to be determined,” said Beneke.
