Memorial Day services set for several county locations


Florence American Legion: The first service will be west of Florence at Mount Calvary Cemetery beginning at 9:30 a.m. Cedar Point Cemetery, south of Cedar Point, will be the site of a 10 a.m. service with Benny Holtsclaw as the guest speaker. North of Florence at Hillcrest Cemetery, a ceremony begins at 11 a.m. with Jeff Davidson serving as guest speaker. The laying of the wreaths will be done by Chelsea Weber.


The Hillsboro American Legion will be hosting Memorial Day Services at 10 a.m. on May 30 in Memorial Park in Hillsboro. The speaker will be Representative Stephen Owens of the Kansas 74th House District. There will be a steak dinner hosted at noon by the Hillsboro Legion available after for $18. Advanced tickets are available at the Legion and Hillsboro Hardware for members and guests.


Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend you are invited to listen or play in the Sunflower Theatre Band from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunflower Theatre will be celebrating the completion of their Helianthus Mural. Some of the folks from the theatre will be playing so show up with your instrument and sit in or message them on Facebook for more details. Also the most amazing Marilyn Jones will be giving out her annual plants. Last year it was sunflowers, this year it is sweet potatoes. If you still have your tubs from last year you can put sweet potatoes in them. And the Peabody Historical Society will be serving lunch by the Morgan House so be sure to visit them.


Lewis Cemetery, 360th W of Ramona. Service will be Monday, May 30 at 10:30 a.m. Opening and closing by Mark Heiser. Speaker is Pastor Davis from the Lutheran Church in Tampa and special music from Becky Roth. TAPS will be played.
