Whitwell currently serves as a deputy with the Marion County Sheriff?s Department.
City Manager David Mayfield said the city?s engineering firm, Kirk and Michael, had called about finalizing the contract for curb and guttering street construction.
Mayfield reported he had not received documentation from Kevin Fruechting concerning withdrawal of the petition he and others had submitted regarding the cost estimates for the project.
At the council?s last meeting, the councilors had agreed to have Kirkham and Michael make an estimate for hard surfacing only.
At Monday?s meeting, Councilor Stacey Collett said he was not in favor of asphalt only surfacing.
Mayfield told the councilors that?according to city attorney Dan Baldwin, who was not present at the meeting?documentation is needed before the petition can be withdrawn.
Mayfield was granted permission to contact those individuals to notify them.
The councilors unanimously approved a contract between the city of Marion and Ranson Financial Consultants for a grant and loan to finance reconstruction of Cedar and Eisenhower streets.
Street Department Superintendent Mary Fredrickson reported problems with the guttering and downspouts at the museum.
?You can see (water is) going in where it?s not supposed to be,? Fredrickson said.
He reported soliciting bids from two companies to have the guttering replaced.
The only bid submitted came from Wiebe Siding of Hillsboro at $2,054.
?So we have the money for this?? asked Councilor Jerry Kline.
Mayfield responded in affirmatively.
After briefly discussing whether to ask for additional bids, the council voted unanimously to accept the bid from Wiebe Siding.
?He does good work,? Olson said. ?I?ve always been satisfied with his work.?
In other business, the council approved:
n transfers of $40,000 from the general fund and $60,000 from the electrical fund to the capital improvement fund for the pool payment.
In response to Collett?s questions about negotiations with the city and school regarding the pool, Mayor Olson said cost of operations and pool hours still need to be addressed.
n payments of $62,703 to Walters Morgan Construction for water plan improvements.
n a donation of $150 to Relay for Life.
n the sale and shooting of fireworks from June 27 to July 5.
The Council previously had approved sales through July 4. Lange asked the council to extend the time until July 5 because that was the date she listed on the signs.
Shooting fireworks is allowed from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. those days.
n payroll of $27,514 and warrants of $121,333.
