Man who stole pickup on Christmas arrested

A man who authorities believe stole a pickup and trailer along with personal property from a rural residence in Marion County on Christmas Day was arrested in Kingman, Ariz., last week after a five-hour standoff.

The pickup taken from Marion County was recovered Feb. 8 near Chloride, Ariz., according to Marion County Sheriff Robert Craft. Craft said Allen Dean Washburn, 35, who was furlough from Bates County, Mo., also had allegedly stolen a vehicle from Barton County, Mo., that was recovered in Marion County.

Detective Wilma Mueller with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office played a key role in following leads, working with individuals and reaching out to law enforcement jurisdiction in Arizona that enabled Washburn to be located and taken into custody, according to Craft.

Washburn also is being sought by several other Kansas counties for crimes allegedly committed after the theft in Marion County.
