Hillsboro man injured in rollover accident

Marion County sheriff?s deputy Duane McCarty reviews the scene of the accident involving a grain truck Feb. 19 along Nighthawk Road. The accident injured the driver, Linferd P. Funk, 74, of Hillsboro.A 74-year-old Hillsboro man was injured in a one-vehicle rollover accident at about 2:15 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, two miles south of 190th on Nighthawk Road.

According to a report by Marion County Sheriff?s Deputy Duane McCarty, Linferd P. Funk was hurt when the 2004 International 8600 left the roadway to the right.

When Funk attempted to steer back, McCarty said, he was unable to because of the asphalt on the edge of the road.

The vehicle went into the east ditch and rolled once, landing on its wheels facing north, he said.

A motorist traveling north on Nighthawk said he came up on the accident minutes after it happened, but didn?t see the actual wreck.

?I wasn?t sure if he was thrown out or got out, but he was staring dazed,? the witness said. ?I tried to get him to sit down and he kept going over to the street and finally laid down.?

Within minutes, emergency personnel were at the scene to include Hillsboro EMS, firefighters, and the sheriff?s office.

A LifeFlight helicopter was also waiting in case Funk needed to be transported to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
