Preliminary plans are being discussed for restoration of wetlands at Spring Lake (pictured above in its current condition) on French Creek and along the shoreline of Marion Reservoir near Kansas Fish and Game headquarters between Durham and the Bruderthal area, both on federal land, to aid in sediment control at the reservoir. Peggy Blackman, coordinator for the WRAPS program, said it will provide funds with cooperative efforts by Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, Marion County (actively providing road and bridge equipment), the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the Natural Resources Conservation Services. The developments were spurred by discussions by the Marion County Surface Water Advisory Board. Blackman said structures used will serve as demonstration models for private land owners who might host future structures that will qualify for funding as ?best management practices.?
