FACT group donates breath test machines

Clint Corby is given a Preliminary Breath Test from Hillsboro Officer Randy Brazil and FACT Director Ashlee Gann. The hope is that it will be used at school events and dances. Submitted PhotoFACT (Families and Communities Together) is the umbrella organization for the Marion County Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition (SAPC). The coalition recently received a request from a school employee who also works with teen leadership groups for a Preliminary Breath Test (PBT) to have on hand for use at school dances or other school events. This led to a discussion about getting enough PBTs for all Marion County School Districts.

It was decided that we purchase new devices for one of our police departments because they use them much more frequently and in turn donate the older devices to the schools. Hillsboro Police Department had the oldest PBTs, thus new ones were purchased for their department.

It is our hope that the schools will implement new policies regarding the PBTs by using them randomly at school events. Small changes to policy like this go a long way with students. If they know there is a chance they may be tested at school events, they will be less likely to use alcohol. Plus it is always great to see schools, law enforcement and other organizations working together on prevention efforts for our youth across the county.

For more information on the coalition or to join contact Ashlee Gann at 620-877-0197 or fact@usd410.net.
