Conservation District has new sign up for programs

The Marion County Conservation District announces a new sign up period for the Water Resources and Non Point Source cost-share programs. Funding provided by the Division of Conservation, Kansas Department of Agriculture, through appropriations from the Kansas Water Plan Fund. The Water Resources Program promotes soil and water conservation, while Non Point Source focuses on water quality protection practices. The sign up will be held April 1 thru May 31, 2019, with funding being available in July for those practices whose rankings identify them as natural resource priorities.

Water Resources provides cost-share assistance to landowners for the following conservation practices: terraces, diversions, grass waterways (new or restoration), livestock water systems and grass seedings. The Non-Point Source Program offers financial assistance for pollution control measures, such as abandoned well plugging, upgrading failing septic systems, livestock water systems and livestock waste management practices. Both programs offer opportunities for landowners to implement new projects without bearing the entire financial burden.

Landowners interested in Water Resources or Non-Point Source cost-share practices should

contact the Marion County Conservation District at 303 Eisenhower Drive in Marion or phone (620) 382-3714 – Ext. 3. All applications will be ranked according to pre-set criteria, determining which practices offer the greatest benefit to the county. New fiscal year funding will be available for accepted cost-share practices beginning in July.
