The Centre FFA Chapter hosted the James Weber Memorial Fishing Derby on Saturday, September 21st at Father Padilla Memorial Park in Herington. Registration began at 9 am, fishing occurred from 9:30-11:30am. A total of 11 youth participated and a total of 10 fish were caught. In the six to nine age group, Scott Hinkson caught the biggest fish of 14 inches, and Lacey Hancock caught the most fish with a count of two. In the ten to twelve age group, Eli Klenda caught the most and biggest fish with three caught and the largest fish was 16 inches. Attendees were given a coupon for a scoop of ice cream, sponsored by Kay’s Pharmacy. Centre FFA members who helped included Keegan August, Chase Kitzmiller, Dillon Knepp, Tyler Nickel, Jensen Riffel, Mikey Silhan, and Tanner Stuchlik.
Conference
Centre FFA Greenhands attended the South Central District (SCD) Greenhand Conference in Andale, KS on Monday, September 16th. Members completed the FFA Information test, attended rotations facilitated by the SCD Officers, the Kansas FFA State Officers, and Ag Industry Professionals. Members were encouraged with a keynote address by Jackie Mundt, a former National FFA President, about what they can do now as they begin their FFA and high school career to live their dreams.
