Jerry Beeler grew up in Lehigh until his family moved to Wichita toward the end of his high school years.

He returned to Marion County on Saturday to show off his 1967 Ford Fairlane 500 XL in the 12th Annual Classic Car and Truck Show held at the Mennonite Heritage and Agricultural Museum in Goessel this past weekend.

“There is a low production number on the xls. It’s all original. It has had a partial repaint on the sides because it had a little parking lot rash, but everything else is 100 percent original. The original owner of the car was a general’s wife stationed at the Pentagon. She bought it new and put it up for sale in 1972,” said Beeler.

A man bought it from the general’s wife in 1972 and drove it from Virginia to his mother-in-law in Oklahoma City. She had it from 1972-1994 when Beeler bought it.

“She bawled when I backed it out of the driveway. I came back after I got it dolled up a bit, but she had already passed away,” said Beeler.

Beeler shows his car off at all kinds of shows around Kansas even if he has to travel a little ways. He and many car owners like him enjoy the shows.

“We had 31 cars and trucks many from Newton, one from Ellsworth, KS,one from Sedgwick, and two from McPherson. A wonderful day and a large crowd attended,” said Fern Bartel from Mennonite Heritage and Agricultural Museum.
