Area children rode their decorated bicycles in the parade Monday. First-, second- and third-place winners in the bike contest held after the parade were unavailable at press time. The bicycles entry was one of almost 50
registered for this year?s parade.

When John Swarm wasn?t coordinating the soap box derby contest at the Florence Labor Day Celebration, some might think he was a happy-go-lucky gorilla at Monday?s parade. Regardless, many people looked surprised to see him on the street. As for the soap box derby, Nevin Shields of Florence was the first place winner.
