Beard Mistress Sue Wadkins (refelected in the mirror) personally certified Friday that Engler was officially entered in the Great Hillsboro Beard Contest. Engler, who has sported a beard for more than a decade (at left), decided to enter the contest one week after the deadline. Wadkins and Wiens both were satisfied Engler could now compete along with the other 13 contestants previously certified on Feb. 16 and one on Feb. 19. The beard-growing competition is honoring Hillsboro?s 125th anniversary. The winner, Wadkins said, will be judged on many different factors to include style, cleanliness, color, shape and datability. The winner will be awarded the title ?Possessor of the Ultimate Hillsboro Beard.? Judging and winner will be announced June 26 at the anniversary ice cream social. Others in the contest are: Mark Rogers, Dale Dalke, Robert Fenstermacker, Darrel Dalke, Joel Klaassen, Matt Jost, Doug Sisk, Ben Steketee, Paul Raugust, Dustin Dalke, David Loewen, Gary Andrews, Engler and Billy Robb, who was the other late entry.JerryBearded278.jpg
