Aerobatic pilots to perform at Newton

The Air Capital Eagles, an aerobatic group based in Wichita, will take flight from the Newton City/County Airport Sept. 6, 7 and 8. The public is invited to watch pilots attempt loops, spins, stalls and other stunts during the free event.

Flights are scheduled beginning at noon Friday, Sept. 6, and will continue Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The three-day competition will help prepare the group for the 27th FAI World Aerobatic Championships in Sherman and Denison, Texas, Oct. 9-20.

This is the third year the ACEs have come to Newton to practice for the competition.

?Every year, the event has just gotten bigger,? said Kevin Timmermeyer, manager of Newton City/County Airport. ?This year they are planning to bring between 20 and 25 aircraft and pilots.?

The public is encouraged to come through the main terminal of the airport and out on the ramp to view the competition. The airport is located at 810 N. Oliver, Newton.
