In the Old Settlers Day parade competition among class floats, the sophomore class (top photo) took first place with its theme, ?Caution! Heroes at Work,? depicting firefighters, nurses and other emergency personnel saving lives. Taking a cue from their upper classmen, the freshmen students also honored EMTs, the fire department and other emergency response units (lower photo) at Saturday?s parade. In the open category, Marion FFA took first place, St. Luke Hospital second, and the Cub Scout Pack 102 was third. According to Casey Case, one of the organizers, the Kiwanis Club also started something new this year by donating $100 toward the park project for the class reunion float that showed the most spirit. This year, that award went to the Class of 1964. Case said classes represented this year included 1934, 1949, 1954, 1959, 1964, 1969, 1974, 1979, 1984, 1989, 1994, 1999 and 2004. ?It was a great day for everyone,? he said.
