19-year-old fatally injured in Sunday head-on crash

A 19-year-old woman from El Dorado was fatally injured early Sunday morning when her vehicle hit head-on with a semi on U.S. Highway 56 in Marion County.

Sally N. Rowell was dead at the scene, according to information from the Kansas Highway Patrol.

In the report, KHP?stated her vehicle, a 2009 Mitsubishi Galant, was traveling south and, for an unknown reason, went left of center five miles south of Herington, colliding with the semi.

The driver of the 2005 International traveling northbound was Tommy M. Tibbets, 45, of El Dorado, who was injured in the accident.

?Rowell?s vehicle came to rest in the west ditch,? a KHP spokesperson said, ?and Tibbets? vehicle came to rest on the east shoulder.?

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts and both vehicles were totaled.

No other details were available at press time.
