After winning the gold medal, Hannah Marsh (left photo) clears 10 feet, 3 inches in the pole vault to break her own school record of 10-0. Likewise, after clinching gold at 5-6, JuliAnne Chisholm (right photo) clears 5-8. She just missed at 5-9, which would have tied the meet record. These two events resulted in HIllsboro?s only gold medals, but the team did well in other events to win the title.

Neither a wearisome weather wait nor a blazing blonde from Burling?ton could derail the Hillsboro High girls from winning the Class 3A title this weekend at the Kansas High School Track & Field Cham?pionships in Wichita.

Andrew Topham of Peabody-Burns battles Kaleb Humphreys in the early going of the 3,200. Both runners broke the 1A meet record, but Hum?phreys picked up the close victory.

It was a dramatic individual effort to cap an impressive team performance.

Competing in the last field event of a long weekend, Goessel senior Garrett Hiebert heaved the javelin 195 feet, 7 inches to not only win a gold medal at the Kansas High School Track & Field Championships this weekend, but to set a new meet record record in the process.
