Jacob Fish delivers a pitch during Game 1 against Nickerson. Fish came on in relief of starter Travis Riesen.

The Hillsboro High baseball team absorbed a pair of lopsided losses to Nickerson, 19-8 and 23-9, in its season opener last Tuesday at Memorial Field.

Jenesa Klose winds and fires in the season opener. After notching six strikeouts in the first game, Klose and the Trojans limited Nickerson to two hits and three baserunners in the second game, a 2-0 win for the Trojans.

Aside from a blustery cold northwest wind, the first games of the season proved to be a tougher test than the Hillsboro High softball team may have expected.

But the Trojans passed it anyway, sweeping a salty Nickerson squad last Tuesday at the Sports Complex. In Game 1, the Trojans erupted for five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning for a come-from-behind 7-3 victory, then squeezed out a 2-0 win in Game 2.
