On Friday night, the Peabody-Burns High School football team opened
its slate with a 21-12 win over Inman. Elliot Spechtenhauser scored the
first two Warrior touchdowns. The first came as he crashed into the end
zone from six yards out and the second came on a 45-yard dash.

Centre

On Aug. 28, the Centre High School volleyball squad played its first
matches of the year at the Elyria Christian quadrangular tournament,
posting a 1-2 record to start the season.

Centre defeated Elyria
(25-17, 25-13) behind six aces and three kills from Kylie Burhoop.
Samantha Alvarez was a perfect 12-for-12 setting and Leann Pankratz
tallied three kills on three attempts.

?The Goessel High School cross country teams ran an early season 2-mile race at Clearwater on Thursday.

Marius Schrewe led the boys to the finish with a time of 12 minutes, 34 seconds, and placed 11th out of 59 juniors and seniors.

The Hillsboro High volleyball team came close to defending its Mid-Central Activities Asso?ciation Preseason Tourna?ment title Saturday at Ellin?wood.

But a disappointing loss to eventual champion Hesston in the semifinals of bracket play kept them out of the title game.

HHS football camp set for July 23-28

The annual Hillsboro High School football camp is set for July 23-28. Sessions will run from 6:30 a.m. to about 9:30 a.m., according to head coach Len Coryea. The camp is open to HHS students entering grades nine through 12 this fall.

HHS girls overcome bad weather and stiff competition to claim another 3A title

After winning the gold medal, Hannah Marsh (left photo) clears 10 feet, 3 inches in the pole vault to break her own school record of 10-0. Likewise, after clinching gold at 5-6, JuliAnne Chisholm (right photo) clears 5-8. She just missed at 5-9, which would have tied the meet record. These two events resulted in HIllsboro?s only gold medals, but the team did well in other events to win the title.

Neither a wearisome weather wait nor a blazing blonde from Burling?ton could derail the Hillsboro High girls from winning the Class 3A title this weekend at the Kansas High School Track & Field Cham?pionships in Wichita.

A 2 1⁄2-hour delay for rain and lightning midway through Saturday?s finale?with several key events still undetermined for Hillsboro?did little to dampen the Trojans? drive for their second title in three years and fourth straight top-two finish.
