The Hillsboro High baseball team completed its regular season May 8 with a doubleheader split against Haven at Memorial Field.

The Trojans held off a Haven rally in Game 1 to post a 5-4 win, but the Wildcats claimed a 6-3 decision in Game 2.

In the opener, Hillsboro staked starter Travis Riesen to a 5-0 lead after two innings.

The Trojans took advantage of two Haven errors in the first inning to score two runs on only one hit. In the second inning, Troy Frick walked with two outs, then scored on a double by Lucas Hamm.

Goessel boys second at HOA meet

The Goessel High boys team totaled 95 points and finished second to Berean at the Heart of America league track meet Friday.

For the second week in a row, the Hillsboro High girls and boys swept the top prize at an invitational track meet.

Coming off a double win at the James Thomas Invitational on April 27, the Trojan girls scored 109 points Thursday to edge Marion by five points for first place at the nine-school Hess?ton Invitational.

Marion High erupted for six runs in the top of the sixth inning to carry the Warriors to a 7-5 come-from-behind win over Hillsboro on Monday, April 30, at Memorial Field.

Hillsboro won the opener, 8-3.

During a spring season in which weather has played havoc on so many other events, Mother Nature smiled on the weather-plagued James Thomas Invita?tional on Friday.

For the first time in four years, Hillsboro High?s premiere home track meet played out on schedule and without a weather-related hitch.

For the Trojans, the wait was worth it, as both the girls? and boys? teams claimed their respective division titles.

With eight first-place performances, the Trojan girls rolled up 129 points to outdistance Hesston (110), Remington (100) and Berean Academy (98) and the rest of the 10-team field.

JuliAnne Chisholm and Hannah Marsh led the assault with three individual gold medals apiece.

Hillsboro High claimed a pair of dramatic one-run wins over Lyons Friday at Memorial Field.

The Trojans (6-6) scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to walk off with a 5-4 victory in Game 1, then scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth to take a 7-6 decision in Game 2.
