HHS, MHS sweep titles at opener

Golfers from Hillsboro and Marion high schools combined to sweep all of the individual and team titles at the Herington Invitational on Tuesday, April 3.

The tournament involved 14 schools, including Goessel, Peabody-Burns and Centre.

On a cold and blustery day, Elliott Soyez from HHS won the individual title with an 18-hole score of 76, edging Zach Frey of Goessel by two strokes. Travis Hett from Marion was third (81), Justin Kent from Hillsboro fourth (82) and Keith Jones (83) of Marion fifth to give Marion County a top-five sweep.

HRC deadline is Thursday

The Hillsboro Recreation Commission deadline is this Friday for registering summer youth baseball, softball, tee-ball, coach-pitch and blastball participants. Registration is required by April 6, as all league fees increase by $10 on April 7. Players registered after April 6 are not guaranteed a place on a team. For Hillsboro High golf coach Scott O?Hare, the more things change the more they stay the same.

Last season, O?Hare had the core of a strong four-man team with three pretty consistent low scorers, but also a big question mark for a fourth score low enough to vault the Trojans into medal contention.
