He came in at quarterback when Mitchell Leppke went out with an injury late in the fourth quarter and threw a 19-yard completion to Justin Heidebrecht.

Sterling defeated the Marion High football team 17-7 in a defensive battle at Marion on Friday night.

When Sterling went three-and-out for its first possession and Marion took a a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter, the Warriors appeared to be heading for a 3-0 start to the season.

With two touchdown runs from both Austin Hager and Mitchell Leppke, the Marion Warriors built an early lead into a 28-6 win at Ellinwood Friday.
