The Marion High softball team dropped a doubleheader to Hoisington on Friday, 7-2 and 8-0.

Trailing 7-0 the top of the fifth inning of Game 1, Marion sent seven batters to the plate.

In a field of 16 teams, the Centre Cougars squad of Kacey Hanschu, Ryan Richmond, Josh Olsen, Heath Hill, Jacob Jennings and Trevor Troutt combined to score 396 and finished in 13th place at the Saint Mary?s Invitational on Tuesday. Led by three meet-record performances by JuliAnne Chis?holm, the Hillsboro girls? ran away from a 16-team field at the Conrad Nightingale Invitational track and field meet Friday in Halstead.

Hillsboro got a school-record performance from its 4×100 team to place second in the boys? division.

The two games were very different, but the outcome was the same as Hillsboro swept a pair of non-league games from Sedg?wick Friday at Memorial Field, 3-0 and 18-3.

Trojan ace Travis Riesen scattered three hits for a seven-inning shutout in a tight Game 1. But in Game 2 the Trojans combined 18 hits with nine Card?inal errors in a five-inning route.

The Hillsboro High softball ended a busy but otherwise disappointing week with a doubleheader sweep of Marion Friday at the Sports Complex, 11-7 and 4-2.

The Trojans? victory in Game 1 snapped a four-game losing streak after doubleheader losses to Hoisington and Smoky Valley earlier in the week.

HHS, MHS golfers battle competitive field

Competing in one of its toughest tournaments of the season, the Hillsboro High golf team finished eighth at the Wichita Collegiate Invitational on Friday.

Played on the challenging Hidden Lakes course in Wichita, the tournament field included some of the top teams in class 3A, 4A and 5A.

Steinborn hurls 3-1 win, MHS splits vs. Halstead

The Marion High softball team split a double header Thursday against Halstead.

A pitcher?s duel in the first game saw the Dragons snap a 0-0 tie in the top of the seventh and the Warriors rally in the home half for a 3-1 victory.

Marion, trailing by a run and having managed only one baserunner in 18 at-bats made the most of a miscue by Halstead shortstop Ashley Douglas.
