The Tabor College football team earned its first win under head coach Mike Gottsch, 49-28, over Oklahoma Panhandle State University Saturday night in Hillsboro.

Tabor College running back Demetrius Cox turns the corner and leaves a trail of defenders in his wake on a 22-yard fumble return late in Saturday?s 36-27 loss to Sterling. On the play, quarterback Jason Aubrey dropped back to pass, was sacked, and fumbled. Cox was Johnny-on-the-spot, scooping up the ball and sprinting across the width of the field before turning toward the end zone.

The price of British currency slid markedly over the weekend, but another Sterling saw its stock rise.

In Saturday night?s showdown of 0-1 teams in Week 2 of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference season, Sterling College exercised its option and pounded Tabor, 36-27.

A pair of costly turnovers marred a strong effort by Tabor College during the opening contest of the season on Saturday.

Ottawa came to Reimer Field with a losing streak against the Bluejays that covered the past three seasons, but left with a 35-26 victory.

TC women run sixth at Lake Afton

The Tabor College cross-country teams ran at Lake Afton in Wichita on Saturday.

The women?s squad had three runners out but still placed sixth out of 14 teams in its first full-distance run of the season.

?We were not at full strength for this meet,? coach Karol Hunt said. ?Shelby Miller, Amber Wiens and Tesheena Ruzinsky were not able to compete because of injuries.?

The Tabor College volleyball team swept opponents Avila, Central Christian, Bacone and Stephens at the McPherson College Classic on Friday and Saturday, to open the season with a 4-0 non-conference mark.

The Tabor College cross-country teams visited Baker University on Saturday for the first meet of the season.

The Tabor women placed fifth in a field of 10. The men placed seventh out of nine teams.

Tabor volleyball rated 1st in KCAC pre-season poll

For the second time in as many years, the Tabor College volleyball
program was picked first in the conference?s pre-season polls.

?We are usually a few points behind first place in the polls,? coach
Amy Ratzlaff said. ?I don't place much weight on that poll.?
