Senior Scribbles (Week of June 27, 2007)

Games, gab and goodies will be held for the ladies on Wednesday, June 27, at the Hillsboro Senior Center.

Come for lunch and interesting facts about Paul Bunyan?s life Thursday, June 28, for Paul Bunyan Day.

Monday, July 2, is I Forgot Day, a day to send a thank-you and birthday you?ve forgotten to send over the year.

Tuesday, July 3, is Stay Out of the Sun Day. Mary McFadden will give foot care from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The center is closed Wednesday, July 4, for Independence Day.

Senior Scribbles (Week of June 20, 2007)

Carry-in meal will be Wednesday, June 20, at the Hillsboro Senior
Center. Bring your own table settings. Haris Zafar will check hearing
at 11:15 a.m. Max Terman will speak after lunch on the Civil War.

Wear shorts, capris or open-toed shoes to the center to kick off the first day of summer Thursday, June 21.

Birthday dinner is Monday, June 25, with special music by Julia Jost before lunch.

In
celebration of the day toothpaste was invented in 1850, Dentist Loren
Loewen will speak on general care after lunch Tuesday, June 26. Jeanne
Rziha will offer the final diabetes classes from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Commodity distribution will start at 10 a.m. June 13 at the Hillsboro Senior Center.

Wear
red, white and blue June 14 to the Hillsboro Senior Center in honor of
Flag Day. Thane Streit will speak after lunch on investing.

A Father?s Day meal will be held June 15. Bring memories and pictures to share. Men?s coffee will follow at 3 p.m.

Mary McFadden will be available for foot care by appointment from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 19.

A movie and popcorn will be offered after lunch Thursday, June 7, at the Hillsboro Senior Center.

The center will hold a fund-raising garage sale and silent auction from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. June 8 and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 9. Profits will be used for ongoing expenses.

Mary McFadden will offer foot care and speak after lunch for ?Hug Your Feet? day June 12.

meal, Sheila Schmitt, associate professor of piano and piano pedagogy
at Tabor College, will give a piano performance.

Saline County extension agent Sherri Mahoney will speak after lunch
Thursday, May 17, about the history of sandwiches. Men?s coffee will
follow at 3 p.m.

The birthday dinner is Monday, May 21, with special music by Lonn and Bev Richards following the meal.

Gordon Mohn will share on the school district bond issue after lunch Wednesday, May 23.

Senior Scribbles (Week of April 25, 2007)

Games, gab and goodies start after lunch Thursday, April 26, at the Hillsboro Senior Center for any women who are interested.

Babe Ruth Day is Friday, April 27. We will read facts about the baseball legend and enjoy the candy bar named after him.

Mary McFadden will visit the center Tuesday, May 1, to give foot care by appointment.

May 1 is also designated as May Day and Mother Goose Day. Bring in your favorite nursery rhymes to share before lunch at 11 a.m.

Those interested in participating in an AARP driver safety course May 7 and 8 should call the center at 947-2304 to sign up.

Haris Zafar will check hearing at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday, April 18, at the Hillsboro Senior Center. Postmaster Norman Bouwie will be sharing thoughts following the noon carry-in meal.
The center will honor its volunteers during National Volunteer Week April 15-21 with a come-and-go coffee reception from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, April 19. To volunteer at the center, call Karly Winter at 947-2304.
Men?s coffee is planned for 3 p.m. Friday, April 20.
The birthday dinner will be held April 23. Following the noon meal Tuesday, April 24, a video titled ?Controlling Cholesterol After 50? will be shown.
