Weber feted by USPS for safe driving

Eddie Weber, an employee with the U.S. Post Office in Hillsboro, reviews his award for 30 years of accident-free safe driving and membership into the Million Mile Club. Rebecca Larsen, Hillsboro postmaster, presented the award to him.Not many carriers with the U.S. Post Office can boast about 30 years of safe driving or being a member of the ?Million Mile Club,? but Hillsboro?s Eddie Weber can.
During a special surprise party at the Hillsboro Post Office, Weber was recognized for his 30-year accident-free driving record.
Weber, who drives 125 miles a day from the Marion Reservoir to Goessel and everything south, said he was surprised and honored to receive the awards.
Weber was with the post office as a ?non-career associate? at Yates Center, said Rebecca Larsen, Hillsboro postmaster.
?He started that job July 26, 1980, and became an employee of the post office as a rural carrier on June 9, 1984,? she said.
In addition to Weber, two other postal employees, Kathy Woelk and Leonard Frantz, will be celebrating 30 years in the near future.
?Kathy will be here 30 years in March 2015, and Leonard in December,? Larsen said.
Another rural carrier, Barbara Schneider, has 17 years, she said.
Other employees include Greg Walker, who is on an auxiliary route and Matt Unger, recently hired as a carrier.
