Two St. Luke staff members train for domestic preparedness crises

Two St. Luke Hospital employees attended a week long training at the Center for Domestic Preparedness.

The training is made available by the U.S. Depart?ment of Homeland Security through the Federal Emer?gency Management Ageny.

Frank Breugem and JR Ewing made the trip from Marion to Anniston, Ala., March 13-19 to take part in the only program in the nation featuring civilian training exercises in a toxic chemical agent environment, including biological materials.

The two men completed the Healthcare Leadership for All-Hazards Incidents training course. HCL is a four-day course which exposes healthcare professionals to the dynamics involved in the decision making processes during an all-hazards disaster involving mass casualties.

The last day Breugem and Ewing learned how to effectively respond to chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear or explosive incidents

The CDP?s mission is to train emergency response providers from state, local and tribal governments, as well as the federal government, foreign governments and private entities, as available.
