Cindy Couchman, the 2009 Kansas Teacher of the Year, will be the guest speaker at the annual USD 410/Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce at noon Aug. 17 monthly luncheon, according to Superintendent Steve Noble.
Couchman, a Buhler High School mathematics teacher, will begin her presentation at 12:45 p.m. She is in her 20th year of teaching, having taught everything from Applied Math to Advanced Placement Calculus.
?Cindy is active in promoting professional learning communities in her district and is a firm believer in the ?Three Rs? of education: relationships, relevance and rigor,? Noble said.
Among her accomplishments, Couchman is a national board certified teacher in adolescent and young adulthood mathematics and a national finalist in the Presidential Award for Excellence in mathematics and science teaching. She is also a national semifinalist for the Excellence in Education award from NEA Foundation.
