St. Luke opens first phase to public

St. Luke Hospital in Marion opened the Phase 1 area of its $6.5 million expansion and renovation project for public use last Monday.

The area, which includes about 70 percent of the entire project, covers nearly 15,000 square feet of new and renovated space, including a new entrance and lobby, physical therapy department with hydro?therapy pool, patient rooms, laboratory, operating suite and some administrative offices.

?It?s a neat time because even though the project isn?t completely finished, we?re really starting to see signs,? said Mike Norris, director of public relations. ?Spirits are high right now in anticipation of the project being totally completed.?

Norris said Phase 1 was completed on schedule and under budget.

Phase 2 of the project began last week with completion scheduled for August. That phase will include dietary, inpatient rooms, medical records and administrative and business offices.

The third and final phase should be done in October.
