St. Luke offering two health-care scholarships

Two $500 scholarships are available from St. Luke Hospital and Living Center to all residents of Hospital District No. 1, Marion County.

The applicants must plan to pursue a career in a health-care setting. Inquiries may be directed to the Human Resources Department at St. Luke Hospital and Living Center at 620-382-2855.

Applications for scholarships will be accepted until March 15. Applicants can access and apply for the scholarship online at www.slhmarion.org (St. Luke Web site).

Completed applications are to be submitted to St. Luke Hospital and Living Center, to the attention of the Human Resources Department, 535 S. Freeborn, Marion, KS 66861.

All applications need to include a fully completed scholarship application, a transcript of school grades and ACT scores, two letters of recommendation from persons not related to the applicant and a personal one-page essay.

The Scholarship Committee will meet in March to choose the scholarship recipients for the next academic year.

The awards are made on the basis of academic achievement, community involvement, extracurricular activities, individual essay, accuracy of application and recommendation letters.

Applicants selected to receive a scholarship will be notified by the Scholarship Committee. The applicant will then notify St. Luke Hospital and Living Center of his or her acceptance into college (including a copy of the letter from the school?s admissions office) and request the scholarship payment.

The Human Resources Department will arrange for presentation of the check. All checks are made out jointly to the recipient and the college she or he will attend.
