Roger Schroeder is the new marketing and foundation director at St. Luke Hospital and Living Center, filling the void created by the resignation of Mike Norris in September.

?I direct the overall coordination of the internal and external public relations, continuous marketing and advertising activities at St. Luke as the marketing director,? Schroeder said about the marketing aspect of his position.

As the foundation?s executive director, Schroeder manages the fundraising campaign, reports to the foundation board each month and steers the organization toward its goals.

?I tend to wear many different hats during the course of a given day,? he said.

Among the various roles the foundation fills, Schroeder said a key one is offering the community a place to support the hospital with tax-deductible donations that are used for improvements.

One of the annual events for fundraising is the Dinky Duck Race during Chingawassa Days.

?There are just so many things the foundation does for the hospital, and vice-versa, that I don?t want to mention one part and leave another out,? he said.

The St. Luke Foundation was established to support St. Luke Hospital and Living Center, Schroeder said, and everything that is involved with it, including Marion County Home Care and St. Luke Physician Clinic.

Born in Fresno, Calif., Schroeder graduated in 2008 with a bachelor?s degree in business administration from Tabor College.

Beyond the classroom, Schroeder was named to the all-conference second team as a first baseman for the Bluejay baseball team.

?I moved to Marion from Hillsboro in the summer of 2009,? he said, ?and worked at Central National Bank from October 2008 until starting at St. Luke last fall.?

The rest of Schroeder?s family lives in Fresno and includes a sister, 20; a brother, 19; his mother, a paralegal; and his step-father, a commercial almond farmer.

In addition to his work at the hospital, Schroeder is a Marion Kiwanis Club member and head baseball coach at Marion High School.

?This spring will be my second season at MHS,? he said. ?I really enjoy coaching and I am thankful for the opportunity the hospital has given me to continue coaching during the spring.?
