Prairie View offers grant money for rent subsidies

Thanks to a Tenant Based Rental Assistance grant from the Kansas Housing Resources Corp., Prairie View is able to provide qualified applicants rental subsidies for up to 24 months.

Prairie View announced last week that it had received the $100,000 grant in October 2007.

The amount of subsidy allowed per applicant is based on a formula and varies according to each applicant?s financial situation and the housing unit chosen.

The target population for the Tenant Based Rental Assistance Program is people with severe and persistent mental illness as defined by the Kansas Depart?ment of Social and Rehabilita?tion Services.

Applicants must reside in, or plan on relocating to, Harvey, Marion or McPherson counties. Applicants must have annual incomes at or below 50 percent of median income.

Applicants will be selected in the order they appear on the waiting list. Applications for assistance will be available starting Jan. 18. Assistance for those who qualify may be available for a period of up to 24 months with all assistance concluded by January 2011.
