Marion restroom projected unveiled in model form

ModelA visual representation of what the new Central Park restroom project will look like was unveiled Friday at the Marion Chamber of Commerce meeting. The rendition was by EBH?Engineering and Marion City Mayor Todd Heitschmidt (above) and City Administrator Roger Holter discussed the project. According to Holter, Marion Advancement Campaign, also known as MAC, is the fundraising arm for the project, and of the $105,000 needed to make the project a reality, $55,000 has been pledged. ?If we can get to $135,000, we will take on the performing stage, too,? Holter said. ?It will have an aluminum strut structure with cover on it and be up for events and down when off.? Holter added that in doing so, the stage can be used by many groups throughout the year. The actual size of the stone stage in front of the restroom building will be 40-feet by 12-feet and two feet off the ground. The building will go back further south, Heitschmidt said, and no trees will be cut down. It will be 26-feet long. ?The restroom,? he said, ?will be a year round facility and in order to tie in with all our community activities, the billboards around it will be reserved for the anniversary class for Old Settler?s Day.? The building is expected to be completed in the fall of 2015, which would mean the classes highlighted include 1965, 1975, 1985 and 1995. For those interested in more information, call Holter or Heitschmidt at 620-382-3703, or send donations to MAC, P.O. Box 256, Marion, KS 66861.
