Representatives from the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce and the newly opened Hillsboro Dental Care celebrated a ribbon-cutting Sunday afternoon marking the official opening of the clinic at the corner of Grand Avenue and Washington Street in Hillsboro. Pictured from left are LaDonna Langley, Becky Soyez, Todd Vogt (Chamber president), Deena Kelsey, Jennifer Silhan (holding the ?First Dollar of Profit?), Dr. Austin Babcock, Dr. Bryan Kynaston (with scissors), Dr. Jon Julian, Christy Wulf, Marlene Herzet, Andie Dunagan and Brenda McGinness. Office staff actually welcomed its first patient in June, before the structure was completely finished, said Dr. Jon Julian.

He said he was pleased with the response of Hillsboro-area residents, who once enjoyed three dental practices in the community but have seen the number dwindle to one in recent years. One additional benefit the new building provides Hillsboro is the availability of a downtown tornado shelter. The basement floor, walls and ceiling are formed in concrete. The downtown hasn?t had a readily accessible tornado shelter since the Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church burned in March 2004.
