The $80,000 unit is equipped with high-definition capabilities that dramatically enhance the view of a colon and make it much easier for doctors and surgeons to detect early polyps and problem areas, according to Mike Ryan, chief executive officer. ?The images doctor will see here are a thousand percent better? than the images produced by the former unit, he said. HCMC is one of only four hospitals in the region to have this latest advancement, the others being the Via Christi system in Wichita as well as hospitals in Salina and Lindsborg. HCMC began using the unit on patients this week. ?I know we have a lot of people going outside the community for a scope,? Ryan said. ?I think they?ll think twice about that if they can get a higher quality scope done right here.?
