The temporary exhibit, ?Immigrant Ships: The S.S. Cimbria & the S.S. Teutonia,? at the Mennonite Heritage Museum in Goessel, has been selected to receive the 2007 Kansas Museums Association Award of Excellence.
The presentation will be made Nov. 9 at the KMA annual conference in Emporia.
?We feel honored to be receiving this award,? said Darlene Schroeder, museum director. ?Mayleen Vinson put a lot of thought and creativity into this exhibit. It helps us understand some of what the immigrants experienced when they made that long, life-changing trip from Russia to Kansas in 1874.
?Most U.S. immigrants in the late 1800s would have had similar experiences when they crossed the ocean.?
The museum will be open from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday to Sunday through Nov. 30.
