Robert Nelson, manager of the Dollar General store in Hillsboro, presented an initial delivery of Christmas gifts Thursday to the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce office. The toys were purchased with cash contributions from Dollar General customers for deserving children in Marion County. Pam Riesen, shown with Nelson, accepted the contributions as the new executive director of the Chamber, which is coordinating the distribution of the toys on the store?s behalf. The Chamber will work with the Giving Tree project at Hillsboro State Bank and the Marion County Toy Run to distribute the toys to county families. Nelson said the charitable program is promoted by the Dollar General corporate office, but the company does not contribute directly to the local collection. The store will continue to collect cash contributions from customers through Dec. 16.
