Copenhaver’s bring detail to their Hillsboro based business

Patty Decker/free press Ashley and Doug Copenhaver own a car detailing business called Mirror Image. They are located in Hillsboro.Doug Copenhaver of Hillsboro opened “Mirror Image,” an auto detailing business that goes beyond the normal car wash by making vehicles gleam.

Unlike the typical automated washing system, Copenhaver said auto detailing involves a lot more.

“The exterior of vehicles are hand-washed and waxed, and the interior carpets and seats are shampooed,” he said. “We clean anything from cars to motorcycles and more.”

In addition to spotlessly cleaning vehicles both inside and out, Copenhaver said he also does minor mechanical work.

“We also carry leather cleaners and conditioners to help soften the leather interior and keep it from cracking in the heat,” he said.

His customers include car dealerships, company fleet cars, family cars and college students heading home for the summer.

“We have had students make sure their brakes are working properly for a safe trip,” he said.

As for the price, Copenhaver said he charges a flat $90 plus tax—the same cost regardless of the vehicle type or size.

“I don’t like to have different prices for different vehicles,” he said. “I want to charge everyone the same amount.”

The idea of opening a new auto detailing business, he said, was to fill a void in the area.

“I used to detail cars in Abilene for another gentleman, and when we moved to Hillsboro I didn’t see a market for detailing,” he said.

Copenhaver said that after he talked it over with his wife, Ashley, the decision was made to pursue his idea.

“Mirror Image” had a soft opening in the latter part of February and early March.

“We wanted to make sure we had enough inventory on hand,” he said.

Regarding the amount of time it takes in detailing a vehicle’s exterior and interior, Copenhaver said it’s about four to five hours.

“We do pick up the vehicles, and if needed, we can also deliver them,” he said. “We also have monthly specials, and our military and police always receive a 10 percent discount.”

Copenhaver and his wife have two daughters, Jasmine, 16, and Lily, 9.

For those interested in more information about having vehicles detailed, Copenhaver works by appointment only and can be reached by calling 620-755-7718.
